Oilers sign Mukhamadullin, Stastney to bolster blueline

The Edmonton Oilers have signed defenseman Shakir Mukhamadullin to a two-year contract extension with an average annual value of $1.75 million, and fellow blueliner Spencer Stastney to a one-year extension worth $1.525 million AAV, the team announced Saturday.

Mukhamadullin extension made official

The Mukhamadullin signing, previously reported on Saturday, was confirmed by the Oilers along with the new contract for restricted free agent Stastney. Both deals shore up Edmonton's defensive depth for the coming seasons.

Mukhamadullin, 24, appeared in 58 games for the Oilers last season, recording 3 goals and 12 assists. The 6-foot-4, 194-pound Russian was originally acquired from the San Jose Sharks in the Erik Karlsson trade. His new contract runs through the 2027-28 season.

Stastney locked in for one year

Stastney, also 24, played 41 games for Edmonton in 2025-26, tallying 2 goals and 8 assists. The Notre Dame product was a restricted free agent and will now be under contract for the 2026-27 campaign at a cap hit of $1.525 million.

“Both players have shown significant development and fit well within our defensive core,” said Oilers general manager Stan Bowman in a statement. “We are pleased to have them under contract as we continue to build a competitive roster.”

Depth moves for Oilers blueline

The signings come as Edmonton looks to maintain its status as a Stanley Cup contender. The Oilers now have seven defensemen under contract for next season, including veterans Darnell Nurse and Evan Bouchard.

Mukhamadullin and Stastney are expected to compete for bottom-pairing roles, providing the team with affordable, young options on the back end. The combined cap hit of $3.275 million gives Edmonton flexibility to address other roster needs.
