Canucks name Mougenel, Smith, Krog as Malhotra's assistants

The Vancouver Canucks have named Jeff Mougenel, Jason Smith, and Jason Krog as assistant coaches on new head coach Manny Malhotra's staff, the team announced Friday.

Coaching staff additions

Mougenel, 52, spent the last two seasons as head coach of the Canucks' American Hockey League affiliate, the Abbotsford Canucks. He previously served as an assistant coach with the Calgary Flames and San Jose Sharks.

Smith, 51, joins the Canucks after serving as an assistant coach with the New York Islanders for the past three seasons. He also spent six seasons as an assistant with the Edmonton Oilers.

Krog, 49, has been an assistant coach with the Canucks' AHL affiliate for the past four seasons. He previously played 11 NHL seasons with the New York Islanders, Atlanta Thrashers, Vancouver Canucks, and Colorado Avalanche.

Malhotra's vision

Malhotra, who was named head coach on June 4, said the new assistants bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the team. "I'm excited to work with Jeff, Jason, and Jason," Malhotra said in a statement. "They are all excellent coaches who have a strong understanding of the game and a passion for developing players."

The Canucks also announced that goaltending coach Ian Clark and video coach Chris Higgins will remain on staff.
