The Calgary Stampede has announced that two Canadian Olympians, Mikaël Kingsbury and Courtney Sarault, will serve as parade marshals for the 2026 Stampede Parade, taking place on July 3.
World-Class Athletes as Ambassadors
Kingsbury, a freestyle skier with five Olympic medals, and Sarault, a short-track speedskater with four medals, will lead the parade through downtown Calgary. Stuart O'Connor, president and board chair of the Calgary Stampede, praised the duo: "Courtney and Mikaël embody the passion, perseverance and excellence we celebrate at the Calgary Stampede. As world-class athletes who have inspired youth on a global stage, they are fitting ambassadors."
Sarault's Excitement
Sarault, who received the news at home in Montreal, expressed immediate enthusiasm: "I remember just being so excited, because I've wanted to go to the Stampede for years. It was a surreal moment, and I said 'Absolutely' without hesitation." She looks forward to riding a horse and wearing full western attire: "I love the outfits. They asked what I'm willing to wear, and I said, 'Full Western. Don't hold back on me.'" A country music fan, she also hopes to attend concerts, the rodeo, and experience the Stampede fully. Having trained in Calgary at the Olympic Oval, she understands the significance: "Being chosen as parade marshal means a lot. I know it's a huge thing in Calgary, and I don't take that job lightly."
Kingsbury's First Time
Kingsbury, a five-time Olympic medallist, is also a Stampede first-timer and will ride a horse for the first time: "I have basically zero experience. I'm a total rookie, but I'm willing to learn. Hopefully it's not too complicated, and I have a great horse." Having competed in Calgary and heard about the Stampede from friends, he was "super excited" when chosen.
Stampede Tradition
The Calgary Stampede continues its tradition of celebrating Canadian Olympians. Sarault, after her standout performance at the 2026 Olympics—where she earned more medals than any other Canadian athlete—has been touring Canada, calling it "really rewarding." She noted, "I was giving 110 per cent every day, so to see it pay off is amazing." Kingsbury echoed the honor of representing Canada at the parade.
