Windsor Spitfires Make Strategic Move with Goalie Trade

The Windsor Spitfires have completed a trade that sends goalie prospect Paolo Frasca to the Sudbury Wolves. This transaction, finalized on Friday, November 21, 2025, may not be the blockbuster deal many fans anticipated, but it represents a strategic move for both Ontario Hockey League clubs.

Details of the Trade Agreement

In exchange for the 19-year-old netminder, the Spitfires will receive two potential draft picks. The initial compensation is Niagara's 15th-round selection in the 2026 OHL Draft. However, this pick will be upgraded to Erie's 12th-round choice in 2026 if Frasca plays just one game for the Wolves this season. Additionally, should Frasca return as an overage player and appear in a game during the 2026-27 season, Windsor will also acquire Owen Sound's fifth-round pick in 2029.

Background on Paolo Frasca's Career

Paolo Frasca was originally selected by Windsor in the 11th round of the 2022 OHL Draft as the 222nd overall pick from the Toronto Jr. Canadiens. Despite his draft status, the five-foot-eleven, 216-pound goalie had been unable to secure a regular spot in the Spitfires' lineup. This season, Frasca has been developing his skills with the Victoria Grizzlies in the British Columbia Hockey League, where he posted impressive statistics. He ranked fifth in the league with a 2.27 goals-against average and second with a .939 save percentage.

Spitfires general manager Bill Bowler explained the reasoning behind the trade, stating that "Sudbury needed some goaltending help and approached us." Bowler expressed optimism about Frasca's future, adding, "Paolo's a really good kid and this will give him an opportunity in the league. I'm hoping things work out for him with the Wolves."

This trade provides Frasca with a fresh start in the OHL while allowing the Spitfires to accumulate future assets, demonstrating the ongoing roster management typical of major junior hockey operations.
