Saskatchewan Roughriders quarterback Trevor Harris is confident that his best football is still ahead of him as he embarks on his 14th season in the Canadian Football League. Speaking to reporters on Tuesday, the veteran signal-caller expressed optimism about his performance and the team's prospects after leading the Riders to a Grey Cup championship in 2025.
Confidence and Experience
Harris, who turned 39 in May, said he feels physically and mentally sharper than ever. 'I know people might think I'm getting older, but I feel like I'm getting better,' Harris said. 'I've learned so much over the years, and I'm applying that knowledge every day.' The quarterback credited his offseason training regimen and the support of his teammates for his renewed energy.
The Roughriders defeated the Montreal Alouettes 27-24 in the 112th Grey Cup last November, with Harris throwing for 312 yards and two touchdowns. He was named the game's Most Valuable Player, cementing his legacy as one of the league's top quarterbacks.
Team Outlook
Head coach Corey Mace expressed confidence in Harris's leadership. 'Trevor is the heart of this team,' Mace said. 'His work ethic and determination are infectious. We're excited to see what he can do this season.' The Riders are set to open their training camp later this week, with Harris expected to lead the first-team offense.
Harris acknowledged the challenges of maintaining peak performance at his age but remains undeterred. 'Age is just a number,' he said. 'I focus on what I can control: my preparation, my health, and my mindset. The rest will take care of itself.'
The Roughriders will kick off their regular season on June 11 against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers at Mosaic Stadium.
