The Professional Women's Hockey League (PWHL) has postponed Game 5 of the semifinal series between the Montreal Victoire and the Minnesota Frost, citing player safety concerns related to illness. The winner-take-all match was originally scheduled for Monday evening at Place Bell in Laval, Quebec, but the league announced the delay just two hours before the planned 7 p.m. puck drop.
Reason for Postponement
In a statement, the league explained that the decision was made after consulting with medical personnel and in line with its commitment to the health and wellbeing of players, fans, staff, and all involved. The league emphasized that medical staff have confirmed the symptoms are not consistent with hantavirus. A rescheduled date will be announced once medical guidance determines it is safe to resume play.
Impact on Finals Schedule
The postponement affects the Ottawa Charge, which already secured its spot in the Walter Cup final by defeating the Boston Fleet in Game 4 on Sunday. The Charge was set to fly out Tuesday for Games 1 and 2 of the finals, which will be on the road as the lowest seed. Earlier Monday, the league scheduled Games 3 and 4 of the finals for May 18 and May 20 at the Canadian Tire Centre. The impact of the postponement on the finals schedule remains unclear.
Ticket Information
The league assured fans that all tickets for the postponed game will be honored for the rescheduled date. Fans unable to attend the new date will receive refund information later. An update is expected within the next day.
