Oilers notebook: Jarry needs partner; Nurse to Sharks?

The Edmonton Oilers face a critical offseason decision regarding their goaltending tandem. With Tristan Jarry under contract for two more seasons at $5.4 million annually, the team must find a suitable partner for him. Jarry, acquired from Pittsburgh in December 2025, struggled with a .858 save percentage in 19 games and appeared in only one playoff contest. The Oilers are unlikely to move his contract, so they must make the pairing work.

Potential Goaltending Options

Connor Ingram, an unrestricted free agent, could be a low-cost option at around $2.5 million per season. However, the Oilers may look elsewhere. Stuart Skinner, also a UFA, is not expected to return. The Ottawa Senators, with Linus Ullmark, could be a fit for Skinner or Ingram. Sebastian Cossa of the Detroit Red Wings, a former first-round pick, has only one NHL game of experience and may be available for a second-round pick. The Oilers have prospects Connor Ungar, Samuel Jonsson, and Eemil Vinni, but none are NHL-ready.

Darnell Nurse Trade Rumors

Speculation continues about defenseman Darnell Nurse being traded to the San Jose Sharks. Nurse carries a $9.25 million cap hit through 2030, making a deal complex. The Oilers would need to retain salary or take back a significant contract. Nurse has a no-movement clause, giving him control over any trade.

The Oilers also have Jack Campbell's $2.6 million buyout on the books for next season, further complicating their cap situation.
