Michael Bublé is set to bring a new hockey docuseries to Prime Video this fall, co-produced with Drew Scott of Property Brothers fame. Titled Hometown Giants, the six-episode series will follow teenage players from the Vancouver Giants, a Western Hockey League team in which both Bublé and Scott hold ownership stakes.
A Passion Project for Canadian Pride
Bublé, a five-time Grammy winner and former coach on The Voice, described the series as a deeply personal endeavor. “We’re both patriotic guys,” he said. “We love our country … love our community … I’m a Canadian that never left. I was born and raised in Burnaby, B.C. I live there still and my kids go to the same school I went to. I never left, so this is a complete passion project for me.”
The show echoes the format of Welcome to Wrexham, which follows Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney as they manage a Welsh soccer club. Hometown Giants will offer audiences an inside look at the dedication, ambition, and heartache of junior hockey players striving to reach the NHL.
Behind the Scenes with Future Stars
Bublé, who joined the Giants as a part-owner in December 2008 alongside majority owner Ron Toigo, has watched numerous players graduate to the NHL. “You’ll get to see some young kids, as a Giant, who will go on and win Stanley Cups. I got to see people like Evander Kane and Milan Lucic and Brendan Gallagher, who is in the NHL Playoffs (with the Montreal Canadiens), he was our captain, and Bowen Byram. That is mind-blowing to me,” he said.
The series will also highlight Bublé and Scott’s roles as co-owners and mentors. “Being a part of junior hockey has allowed me to be kind of a father figure to hopefuls that have this dream,” Bublé added.
Drew Scott’s Vision
Scott, who bought a stake in the team in 2023, convinced Bublé that the Giants’ story was ripe for a docuseries. “That was Drew,” said Bublé. “He’s an international superstar who’s obviously very talented and has a lot of charisma. But he’s also got a killer work ethic.”
Scott, along with his twin brother Jonathan, has hosted Property Brothers since 2011 and leads Scott Brothers Entertainment, which produces other reality shows. “We’ve been talking to you guys for years and you know how passionate we are about Canada,” Scott said. “For us, it’s not about the money. It’s about helping shape these kids’ careers and give them the best shot and pulling together the community. When you watch Hometown Giants, you’ll see it’s all about building community.”
Bublé’s Hockey Loyalties
During the Toronto announcement, Bublé, a die-hard Vancouver Canucks fan, offered praise for Mitch Marner and expressed frustration over tax advantages for U.S. teams. When asked about the Stanley Cup, he reluctantly predicted the Vegas Golden Knights would win, though he held out hope for the Montreal Canadiens. “You can see my heart is breaking a little bit. I got a little vomit in my mouth even saying that out loud.”
Hometown Giants joins a growing lineup of hockey-themed shows on Prime Video, including Off Campus, and is set for a fall 2026 release.
