Toronto Argonauts Promote QB Coach Mike Miller to Head Coach Role
Argos Name Mike Miller as New Head Coach

The Toronto Argonauts have decided to keep their next head coach in the family, opting for a familiar face to lead the storied franchise forward. On Tuesday, December 2, 2025, the team announced the promotion of quarterback coach Mike Miller to the role of head coach.

An Extensive Search Leads Back Home

Despite casting a wide net in their hunt for a new leader, the Argonauts' search ultimately ended close to home. Miller, who has served as the team's QB coach since 2022, takes over the top job from Ryan Dinwiddie, who departed last month to become the head coach of the Ottawa Redblacks.

The organization reportedly spoke with several high-profile CFL figures during the process. This list included Winnipeg Blue Bombers head coach Mike O'Shea—a former Argos star—Hamilton Tiger-Cats executive Orlondo Steinauer, and Saskatchewan Roughriders boss Corey Mace.

Miller's Pedigree and Promise

Miller brings nearly three decades of coaching experience to the role, with a resume that spans the NCAA, XFL, NFL, and CFL. He is a two-time Grey Cup champion with Toronto, having won titles in 2022 and 2024. His impact was notably felt in 2023 when he helped quarterback Chad Kelly earn the CFL's Most Outstanding Player award.

His NFL experience includes stints with the Pittsburgh Steelers, Buffalo Bills, and Arizona Cardinals. While with the Cardinals, he worked with prolific players like Kurt Warner, Anquan Boldin, and future Hall of Famer Larry Fitzgerald.

"The opportunity to coach this historic franchise is a dream come true for my family and me," Miller said in the team's official press release. "I consider it a privilege to be in this position, and we will stop at nothing to get back to where we know we belong, and that is winning Grey Cup championships."

Vote of Confidence from Argos Leadership

General manager Michael "Pinball" Clemons expressed strong support for the hiring, emphasizing Miller's character and coaching philosophy. "Mike Miller is a coach who cares deeply — about the game, about his players and about building relationships," Clemons stated. "His authenticity and his commitment to cultivating a vibrant culture that helps young men grow on and off the field make him a tremendous fit for our family."

Clemons concluded, "We're proud to have Mike leading the Argonauts." The promotion marks a new chapter for the Double Blue, as they aim to build on their recent success under a coach who has already been integral to their offensive achievements.
