The 2026 Western Hockey League prospects draft concluded with 33 Saskatchewan-born players selected over the two-day event. This marks a strong showing for the province, with five players taken in the first round alone.
First Round Selections
In the first round on Wednesday night, five Saskatchewan-born prospects heard their names called. The only Regina product taken in the first round was forward Rylan Edwards, selected 18th overall by the Brandon Wheat Kings. Last season, Edwards played for the Northern Alberta Xtreme U15 Prep team, recording 17 goals and 26 assists for 43 points in 28 games. Prior to that, he suited up for the Regina Aces U15 AA squad, notching 72 points in 27 games in 2024-25. He is committed to playing for the Regina Pat Canadians next season.
Other first-round picks from Saskatchewan included Saskatoon products Jax Bubnick (11th, Seattle Thunderbirds), Wyatt Bitz (13th, Everett Silvertips), Danny Ramazanov (17th, Red Deer Rebels), and Warman's Cullen Stephenson (10th, Portland Winterhawks).
Later Round Selections
In the second round, Shellbrook's Caleb Philp was selected by the Swift Current Broncos, followed by Kerrobert's Brady Leinenweber (Vancouver Giants) and Warman's Kobe Pellack (Moose Jaw Warriors).
Saskatoon's Caleb Mozell went in the third round to the Prince Albert Raiders, with Regina's Riley Rubidge taken two picks later. Warman's Jesse Scriven followed to Swift Current.
In the fourth round, Nipawin's Parker Bleich was drafted by the Red Deer Rebels, Swift Current's Luke Trann by the Kelowna Rockets, and Lanigan's Sam Brenner by the Prince Albert Raiders.
Round five saw White City's Kingston Dickie, a defenceman on the Prairie Storm U15 squad, selected by the Moose Jaw Warriors. Three Saskatchewan-born players went back-to-back-to-back: Saskatoon's Joshua Koehler to the Saskatoon Blades, Saskatoon's Bennet Boehm to Everett, and Regina's Nash Tomchuk to Calgary. Meadow Lake's Kacy Tuberfield went to Portland, and Prince Albert's Lachlan Vandall to Prince George.
In the sixth round, Esterhazy's Bridger Unchulenko was drafted by Moose Jaw, Meadow Lake's Kai Genereaux by Lethbridge, Gull Lake's Carter Bleau by Regina, Swift Current's Damon James by Moose Jaw, and Nokomis' Maguire Hendry by Prince Albert.
Wilcox's Jax Baumuller was drafted in the seventh round by Moose Jaw, Macklin's Landon Reschny by Vancouver, Warman's Cole Nakrayko by Everett, Regina-born Jagger Korol (Prairie Storm U15 AA) by Prince George, and Yorkton's Kelson Hawreluik by Medicine Hat.
Overall, the 2026 WHL draft showcased the depth of Saskatchewan's hockey talent, with players from across the province selected by teams throughout the league.
