Stamps Re-Sign All-CFL DL Jaylon Hutchings to Three-Year Deal

The Calgary Stampeders have brought back a familiar face to help them pursue a Grey Cup celebration at McMahon Stadium. The team announced Sunday that they have re-signed all-CFL defensive lineman Jaylon Hutchings to a three-year contract, keeping the talented defender in Calgary through the 2028 season.

Hutchings Returns After NFL Opportunity

Hutchings, 26, had been released by the Stampeders on January 6 to pursue a chance with the NFL's Minnesota Vikings. However, a change in management with the Vikings and a timely injury cut his audition short, leading to his return to the CFL.

“It’s great to have Hutch back,” said Stampeders GM and head coach Dave Dickenson. “For him to make a three-year commitment to us is a huge deal. He was a force up front for us last season, and his return will further bolster our defence and make us a better team.”

Hutchings, who stands 6 feet tall and weighs 300 pounds, originally signed with the Stampeders on October 5, 2024. Over the 2024 and 2025 campaigns, he appeared in 19 games and developed into a key component of the defence, particularly during the team’s turnaround season in 2025.

Outstanding 2025 Season

Last season, Hutchings started all 17 games he played, recording 39 defensive tackles, including three tackles for losses, eight sacks, one fumble recovery, one forced fumble, and two knockdowns. His performance earned him a spot on both the West Division all-CFL and all-CFL teams. He also started the Western Semi-Final against the BC Lions, contributing two sacks and a knockdown.

“I’m excited to be back in the Red and White,” said Hutchings. “I’m looking forward to being a part of bringing a Grey Cup back to Calgary.”

College Career at Texas Tech

Before joining the CFL, Hutchings had a standout college career at Texas Tech University. Over six seasons (2018-2023), he made 57 starts in 62 games for the Red Raiders, amassing 193 career tackles, including 108 solo stops. He also registered 26 tackles for losses, 11 sacks, two forced fumbles, one fumble recovery, and one pass breakup.

The Stampeders are counting on Hutchings to continue his dominant play as they aim for a championship in 2026.
