Rintaro Okamoto launched two home runs, and Luis Sosa and Luis Pinango each collected three hits as the Toronto Blue Jays defeated the Minnesota Twins 7-3 on Friday night in Minneapolis.
Okamoto's Power Display
Okamoto, the Blue Jays' designated hitter, went deep in the second inning off Twins starter Joe Ryan and again in the sixth inning against reliever Caleb Thielbar. The two-homer game was the first of his major league career.
Key Contributions
Sosa, the Blue Jays' shortstop, singled three times and drove in a run. Pinango, playing left field, also singled three times and scored twice. George Springer added two hits and an RBI for Toronto.
Pitching Performance
Blue Jays starter Kevin Gausman (3-2) pitched six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out seven. He earned his third win of the season. The bullpen combined for three scoreless innings, with Jordan Romano striking out the side in the ninth for his seventh save.
Twins' Efforts
Byron Buxton hit a two-run homer in the third inning for Minnesota, and Royce Lewis added a solo shot in the fourth. Ryan (2-3) took the loss, giving up five runs on eight hits over five innings.
The Blue Jays improved to 18-12, while the Twins fell to 14-16. The teams continue their three-game series on Saturday.
