Storybook Return: Calgary Wild Forward Mya Jones Back on Pitch After 18 Months
Calgary Wild's Mya Jones Returns After 18-Month Hiatus

Mya Jones is always at her happiest on the soccer pitch. Unfortunately, the 25-year-old hasn’t been able to do much of that over the past year and a half. Now, the Calgary Wild forward is making a storybook return to the game she loves.

Jones, who plays for the Calgary Wild in the Northern Super League, has been sidelined since early 2025 due to a series of injuries. The extended absence was a challenging period for the talented forward, who had been a key player for the team since joining in 2024.

“It’s been a long road, but I’m so excited to be back on the field with my teammates,” Jones said in a statement released by the club. “I’ve missed the game so much. There’s nothing like the feeling of stepping onto the pitch and hearing the crowd.”

Injury Struggles and Recovery

Jones’s troubles began in February 2025 when she suffered a hamstring strain during a preseason match. What was initially expected to be a short recovery turned into a series of setbacks, including a subsequent ankle injury during rehabilitation. The cumulative effect kept her out of action for the entire 2025 season.

“It was frustrating because I felt like I was making progress, and then something else would happen,” Jones recalled. “But I had great support from the medical staff, my family, and my teammates. They kept me going.”

The club’s head coach praised Jones’s determination. “Mya has worked incredibly hard to get back to this point. Her commitment to her recovery has been exemplary, and we’re thrilled to have her available again.”

Return to Training

Jones returned to full training with the Wild in April 2026 and has been building up her fitness ahead of the upcoming season. She participated in her first full-team scrimmage last week, scoring a goal and providing an assist in a positive sign for the club.

“I felt good out there,” Jones said. “There’s still some rust to shake off, but the chemistry with the team is coming back. I’m ready to contribute however I can.”

The Calgary Wild are set to open their 2026 campaign on June 10 against the Vancouver Victory. Jones is expected to be available for selection, though the coaching staff will manage her minutes carefully to avoid any risk of re-injury.

Impact on the Team

Jones’s return is a major boost for the Wild, who finished fifth in the league last season. The team struggled for goals in her absence, averaging less than a goal per game. With Jones back in the lineup, the club hopes to improve its attacking output and push for a playoff spot.

“Mya is a game-changer,” said the team captain. “Her pace, her finishing, her work rate — she brings so much to the table. Having her back feels like a new signing.”

Looking Ahead

Jones is focused on the future and making up for lost time. “I’ve got a lot of football left in me,” she said. “I want to help this team win, and I want to enjoy every minute of being back out there.”

Fans of the Calgary Wild will be hoping that Jones’s storybook return has a happy ending — with a successful season and, perhaps, a championship run.
