Huskies Players and Coaches Shine in East-West Bowl Victory

Five players and two coaches from the University of Saskatchewan Huskies football team played pivotal roles in Team West's narrow 28-27 victory over Team East in Saturday's East-West Bowl, an annual showcase for top university football talent in Canada.

Defensive back Ethan Laing delivered a game-changing interception in the fourth quarter inside Team West's own end zone, helping to preserve the lead. Laing finished with 1.5 tackles and the interception, earning him the defensive player of the game honors. Receiver Daniel Kubongo also made a significant impact, catching three passes for 49 yards and a touchdown in the third quarter, while adding a 35-yard kickoff return.

Other Huskies players in the game included receiver Dawson Lennea and defensive linemen Riece Kack and Reece McCormick. University of Saskatchewan head coach Scott Flory served as the head coach for Team West, while Mason Nyhus took on the role of offensive coordinator.

Flin Flon Bombers Seek First Win at Centennial Cup

The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League champion Flin Flon Bombers are still searching for their first victory at the Centennial Cup Jr. A hockey championship, which began May 7 in Summerside, P.E.I. The Bombers opened the tournament with a 1-0 loss to College Francais de Longueuil on Friday, conceding a power-play goal in the second period.

On Saturday, Flin Flon fell 7-2 to the Toronto Patriots, who built a 3-0 lead in the first period and extended it to 7-1 by the end of the second. The Bombers added a goal in the third period. After a day off on Sunday, Flin Flon returns to action on Monday against the Greater Sudbury Cubs, followed by a round-robin finale on Thursday against the Truro Bearcats. Playoffs begin on Friday.
