Former Saskatchewan Roughriders defensive end Charleston Hughes will be inducted into the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, the organization announced Tuesday. Hughes, a six-time CFL All-Star, played 13 seasons in the league, recording 135 sacks, which ranks fifth all-time.
Dominant CFL Career
Hughes began his CFL career with the Calgary Stampeders in 2008, where he spent nine seasons and won two Grey Cups (2014, 2018). He joined the Roughriders in 2017 and played three seasons in Saskatchewan, earning CFL All-Star honours in 2018 and 2019. He also played for the Toronto Argonauts in 2021 before retiring.
“Charleston was a relentless pass rusher and a true professional,” said Roughriders general manager Jeremy O’Day in a statement. “His impact on the field and in the community made him a fan favourite and a deserving Hall of Famer.”
Hall of Fame Class
Hughes will be part of the 2026 Hall of Fame class alongside other inductees, including offensive lineman Stanley Bryant and receiver Nik Lewis. The induction ceremony will take place in September in Hamilton, Ont.
“It’s an incredible honour to be recognized among the greatest players in CFL history,” Hughes said. “I couldn’t have done it without my teammates, coaches, and the fans who supported me throughout my career.”
