Blue Jays Place Lukes on IL, Call Up Pinango

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed outfielder Nathan Lukes on the 10-day injured list due to a left hamstring strain, adding to the team's growing list of injuries.

Lukes' Injury and Recent Performance

Lukes was injured while running to second base after a leadoff double in Friday's game against the Cleveland Guardians. He had been on a hot streak, with 11 hits in his last 21 at-bats. Earlier this season, Lukes battled vertigo, and this latest setback is another blow for the 2025 revelation.

Blue Jays' Growing Injury List

Lukes joins other position players on the injured list, including George Springer, Addison Barger, and Alejandro Kirk. Springer has been sidelined with a fractured big toe from a foul tip. The Blue Jays have used Ernie Clement and Lukes in the leadoff spot in Springer's absence, but neither has his pedigree. However, Springer is reportedly progressing well in his recovery.

Yohendrick Pinango Called Up

To replace Lukes, the Blue Jays called up outfielder Yohendrick Pinango, the team's 10th-ranked prospect according to MLB Pipeline. The 23-year-old was active for Saturday's game. In Triple-A with the Buffalo Bisons, Pinango appeared in 22 games, hitting three home runs, driving in 13 runs, and posting an .858 OPS.

To make room for Pinango on the 40-man roster, the Blue Jays transferred right-handed pitcher Yimi Garcia to the 60-day injured list.

Outlook for the Blue Jays

The Blue Jays, reigning American League champions, have been plagued by injuries this season. They entered Saturday's play second-last in the AL East. The team hopes to eventually field its ideal lineup, but the injury bug may continue to bite.
