Blackhawks star Bedard suffers apparent shoulder injury in Burnaby

Chicago Blackhawks star Connor Bedard appeared to suffer a shoulder injury during a training session at Burnaby's Scotia Barn on Thursday, July 2, 2026. The North Vancouver native was seen skating off the ice in obvious pain after crashing awkwardly into the boards during a drill.

Incident details

According to Patrick Johnston of Postmedia, Bedard lost his balance during a drill and hit the boards awkwardly. He was heard cursing before skating to the other end of the ice, clearly in great discomfort with his left shoulder. This marks the second time in six months he has dealt with a shoulder concern; he injured his right shoulder in a late-game faceoff in December 2025.

The Blackhawks have not yet issued an official statement on the severity of the injury. Bedard was training with a group of young players at the Burnaby facility when the incident occurred.
