Senators' contract projections: Spence, Batherson, and key RFAs
Senators contract projections: Spence, Batherson, others

The Ottawa Senators are set for a busy offseason as they look to improve their roster through trades and free agency. However, several internal decisions loom, with a handful of players needing new contracts for the 2026-27 season or eligible for extensions starting July 1.

Contract Projections for Key Senators

Centre Stephen Halliday was the first to re-sign, inking a two-year, $2.15 million deal on May 5. More signings could come before the NHL Draft in June.

Jordan Spence (RFA)

Spence set career highs in goals (7) and points (31) in his first season with Ottawa. His defensive play improved, and he thrived on the bottom pairing with Tyler Kleven. After being traded from Los Angeles, he expressed gratitude for the Senators' locker room. A fair deal is expected.

Projection: Three years, $3.6 million AAV

Claude Giroux (UFA)

If Giroux returns for another season, the Senators should offer the same contract as last summer. He excelled early but faded late. He could fit on the third line with Shane Pinto.

Projection: One year, $2 million

Nick Cousins (UFA)

Cousins revived his career with 23 points and a plus-8 rating in 81 games. He could earn a modest raise.

Projection: One year, $1.5 million

Drake Batherson (RFA)

Batherson is due a significant raise after a strong season. He has earned a lucrative long-term deal.

Projection: Eight years, $8 million AAV

Other RFAs like Jacob Bernard-Docker and Erik Brannstrom also need new deals. The Senators have cap flexibility but must be strategic.
