Carter Beck, a 22-year-old infielder from Saskatchewan, was selected by the Atlanta Braves in the 2026 Major League Baseball Draft, making him one of the highest-drafted players from the province in recent years.
Beck's Path to the Pros
Beck played college baseball at Indiana State University, where he emerged as a standout performer. During the 2026 season, he batted .321 with 18 home runs and 62 RBIs, earning All-Missouri Valley Conference honors. His strong arm and defensive versatility made him a sought-after prospect.
According to MLB scouting reports, Beck's fastball velocity from the infield consistently reached 92 mph, and his power at the plate drew comparisons to major league veterans. The Braves selected him in the 5th round, 147th overall.
Historic Moment for Saskatchewan Baseball
Beck is the first Saskatchewan-born player drafted by the Braves since 2011. His hometown of Regina celebrated the news, with local baseball officials highlighting his dedication. “Carter's work ethic and talent have inspired young athletes across the province,” said Saskatchewan Baseball Association president Mark Thompson in a statement.
The draft class included 20 Canadian players, with Beck being one of three from the prairie provinces. He is expected to report to the Braves' rookie-level affiliate in Danville, Virginia, for training camp.
