The Barrie Majors' bats came alive in a big way on Saturday, powering the team to a 12-5 victory over the Baycats at home. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the Majors, who improved to 8-6 on the season in the Intercounty Baseball League.
Offensive Explosion Leads the Way
The Majors pounded out 15 hits in the contest, with every starter reaching base at least once. First baseman Ryan Spataro led the charge, going 3-for-5 with a home run and four RBIs. Catcher Jordan Castaldo added three hits and two runs batted in, while left fielder Marcus Knecht chipped in with two hits and three RBIs.
Barrie jumped out to an early lead, scoring four runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Baycats answered with two runs in the top of the second, but the Majors responded with three more in the third to take a 7-2 advantage. Barrie never looked back, adding runs in the fifth, sixth, and seventh innings to put the game out of reach.
Pitching Holds Baycats in Check
Starter Connor Bagnieski earned the win, tossing six innings and allowing four runs on eight hits while striking out five. Reliever Brandon Hillis pitched two scoreless innings, and Evan Smith closed out the ninth.
Baycats starter Justin Cicatello took the loss, surrendering seven runs on eight hits over three innings. The Baycats fell to 9-5 with the defeat.
Key Moments and Statistics
Spataro's home run, a two-run shot in the sixth inning, extended the Majors' lead to 11-4 and effectively sealed the victory. The Majors also capitalized on two Baycats errors, scoring three unearned runs.
"We've been working hard in the cage, and it's paying off," said Spataro, according to the Barrie Examiner. "Everyone contributed tonight, and that's what we need to keep doing."
The win moves the Majors into a tie for third place in the IBL standings, while the Baycats remain in second. The two teams will meet again on Sunday for the second game of their three-game series.
