Former Lions Star Millington Enters CFL Hall of Fame

Former BC Lions running back Sean Millington has been elected to the Canadian Football Hall of Fame, the organization announced on Friday. Millington, a key figure in the Lions' back-to-back Grey Cup championships in 2000 and 2006, is one of the most decorated players in franchise history.

A Storied Career

Millington played 11 seasons in the Canadian Football League, all with the Lions, from 1995 to 2006. He amassed 7,841 rushing yards and 54 touchdowns on the ground, while also contributing 2,456 receiving yards and 12 touchdowns through the air. His versatility and leadership made him a fan favorite and a nightmare for opposing defenses.

In addition to his two Grey Cup rings, Millington was a four-time CFL All-Star and was named the league's Most Outstanding Canadian in 2000. He was also a finalist for the league's Most Outstanding Player award that same year.

Impact Beyond the Field

Millington's influence extended beyond his on-field performance. He was known for his community work and mentorship, often volunteering with youth programs in British Columbia. His induction into the Hall of Fame recognizes not only his athletic achievements but also his contributions to the sport and society.

“Sean Millington exemplified what it means to be a professional athlete,” said Rick LeLacheur, president of the BC Lions. “His dedication, work ethic, and passion for the game were unmatched. We are incredibly proud to see him receive this well-deserved honor.”

Hall of Fame Class of 2026

Millington will be inducted alongside other distinguished players and builders in a ceremony scheduled for September 2026 in Hamilton, Ontario. The full list of inductees will be announced in the coming weeks.

The Canadian Football Hall of Fame has enshrined over 300 players, coaches, and contributors since its inception in 1963. Millington becomes the 22nd BC Lions player to be inducted, further cementing the franchise's rich history.
