Flames Pick Harrington Early in Second Round at NHL Draft

The Calgary Flames kicked off Day 2 of the 2026 NHL Draft on Saturday by selecting forward Chase Harrington with the 36th overall pick, the first of three second-round selections for the team. After a busy Friday night that saw the Flames take defenseman Carson Carels sixth overall and center Jack Hextall at No. 30, the organization turned its attention to adding depth to its prospect pool.

Flames Add Physical Forward in Harrington

Chase Harrington, a 6-foot-1, 201-pound forward from Prince George, British Columbia, spent the 2025-26 season with the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League. In 61 games, he recorded 28 goals and 29 assists for 57 points. Harrington is projected to develop into a third-line NHL forward, known for his physical presence and tenacity along the boards rather than elite offensive production.

Harrington was photographed during the CHL USA Prospects Challenge at the Scotiabank Saddledome in Calgary on November 25, 2025, showcasing his potential in front of the home crowd before the draft.

Flames Trade Up to Snag Top Goaltender Trejbal

Shortly after selecting Harrington, the Flames made a trade to move up in the second round. They sent the No. 51 and 68 picks to acquire the 42nd overall selection, where they chose goaltender Tobias Trejbal from the Youngstown Phantoms of the USHL. Trejbal was named USHL Goaltender of the Year after posting a 2.12 goals-against average and a .916 save percentage.

Trejbal, a native of Czechia, was widely considered the top goaltender in this year's draft and was expected by many to go in the first round. He will attend the University of Massachusetts next season. His addition bolsters an already impressive group of young goaltenders in the Flames system, including Kirill Zarubin, Arseni Sergeyev, Owen Say, and Dustin Wolf.

Flames Entered Day 2 with Ample Draft Capital

With three second-round picks, two in the third round, and three more selections in later rounds, the Flames had significant opportunities to strengthen their prospect pool on Saturday. The team's strategy focused on adding both immediate talent and long-term depth across multiple positions.

The Flames' draft moves reflect a commitment to building a competitive roster for the future, addressing both forward and goaltending needs while leveraging their draft capital efficiently.
