Bo Levi Mitchell threw five touchdown passes to lead the Hamilton Tiger-Cats to a 41-27 home victory over the B.C. Lions on Friday night. The veteran quarterback showcased his arm strength and accuracy, spreading the ball to multiple receivers throughout the game.
Mitchell's Masterful Performance
Mitchell completed 24 of 32 passes for 342 yards and five touchdowns, with no interceptions. His passer rating was a stellar 148.7. The Ticats' offence was efficient and explosive, scoring on six of their nine possessions.
Wide receiver Tim White caught two touchdown passes, while Kiondre Smith, Shemar Bridges, and running back James Butler each added one receiving score. Butler also rushed for 78 yards on 15 carries.
Lions' Efforts Fall Short
B.C. Lions quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. threw for 289 yards and two touchdowns, but also tossed two interceptions. Running back William Stanback rushed for 67 yards and a touchdown, but the Lions' defence could not contain Hamilton's aerial attack.
The Lions trailed 24-10 at halftime and could not close the gap in the second half. Hamilton's defence forced three turnovers, including a key interception in the red zone that halted a B.C. scoring threat.
Game-Changing Moments
Mitchell's fifth touchdown pass, a 22-yard strike to White early in the fourth quarter, put the Ticats ahead 41-20 and effectively sealed the win. The Lions added a late touchdown but could not recover the onside kick.
Hamilton's special teams also contributed, with punter Michael Domagala averaging 44.5 yards per punt and pinning B.C. inside their 20-yard line twice.
Impact on Standings
The win improved Hamilton's record to 3-1, placing them atop the East Division. The Lions fell to 2-2, remaining in second place in the West Division. The Ticats will look to continue their momentum next week against the Calgary Stampeders.
According to Ticats head coach Scott Milanovich, 'Bo was in complete control tonight. He read the defence perfectly and made all the right throws. This was a complete team effort.'
The Lions will return home to face the Winnipeg Blue Bombers in a crucial divisional matchup.
