Blue Jays Place Cease on 15-Day IL, Activate Lukes

The Toronto Blue Jays have placed pitcher Dylan Cease on the 15-day injured list, the team announced Tuesday. In a corresponding move, the club activated outfielder Nathan Lukes from Triple-A Buffalo.

Cease's Injury Details

Cease, who was acquired in a trade with the Chicago White Sox last offseason, has been dealing with right shoulder inflammation. The 30-year-old right-hander is 5-3 with a 3.78 ERA in 11 starts this season. He last pitched on May 19 against the New York Yankees, allowing four runs over five innings.

The move is retroactive to May 20, meaning Cease could return as early as June 4 if he is ready. The Blue Jays have not specified a timeline for his return, but manager John Schneider expressed optimism that the injury is minor.

Lukes Returns to Majors

Nathan Lukes, 30, was hitting .310 with three home runs and 18 RBIs in 35 games for Buffalo. He previously appeared in 12 games for Toronto this season, batting .250 with a double and two RBIs. The left-handed hitter provides outfield depth and a lefty bat off the bench.

Lukes is expected to be available for Tuesday night's game against the Tampa Bay Rays.

The Blue Jays entered Tuesday with a 28-22 record, sitting third in the American League East.
