Women United Luncheon Funds Student Success Program

Women United held its annual Celebrating Women Who Inspire Us Luncheon on Wednesday, bringing together community members to support programs for local youth. The event emphasized perseverance and the transformative power of education.

Keynote Speaker Inspires with Resilience Story

Presented by LiUNA!625, the luncheon featured keynote speaker Lynn McLaughlin, an award-winning educator, author, and brain tumour survivor. She shared reflections on her career in education and her personal journey of resilience, inspiring attendees with her message of overcoming challenges.

Fundraising for On Track To Success

The luncheon served as a fundraiser for United Way's On Track To Success program, which provides wraparound supports for students from low-income households. The program helps students stay in school and complete high school, with pathways to college, university, or skilled trades.

McLaughlin's career includes roles as a classroom teacher, superintendent of education, and teaching educational assistants at St. Clair College. She now works with EOS Learning Canada, delivering professional development in literacy programs that strengthen foundational reading skills through adaptive, data-driven instruction.

“As founder of her corporation and host of the podcast, Lynn is guided by her motto, ‘ride the waves to calmer waters,’ inspiring a proactive approach to wellbeing and learning,” the organization said in a statement.

McLaughlin also hosts the podcast Taking the Helm and co-authored the Power of Thought series with her niece, Amber Raymond. The book series earned a Mom’s Choice Award.

Women United Initiative

Women United is a United Way initiative that supports programs focused on women, children, and families in Windsor-Essex. Organizers say the annual luncheon is intended to bring together community members while highlighting local impact and leadership.
