Readers praise Kinsella's column on Canadian values
In a letter to the editor published July 12, 2026, reader Wayne Haggard of Scarborough praised Warren Kinsella's July 3 column titled "What sets us apart." Haggard stated that the column "absolutely hit the nail on the head" in expressing his own thoughts and values, as well as those of many Canadians. He suggested the column should be made compulsory reading for young people in Canada's education system.
Critique of Liberal bias and immigration policies
Another reader, Graham Neville of East York, offered a more critical perspective. While acknowledging that Kinsella's column was "interesting and mostly right on the money," Neville questioned Kinsella's focus on blaming Donald Trump for Canada's problems. Neville argued that Canada's issues—including concerns about jobs, housing, immigration, and emergency health care—predate Trump. He attributed the root cause to the Liberal government's policies of open immigration and failure to monitor or remove those not following Canadian rules, particularly immigrants with non-Christian or non-Judeo values. Neville concluded, "Come on, Kinsella, lay the blame where it lies."
Reader questions Kinsella's tone and hatred
A third letter came from Mary Howard of Blackstock, Ontario, who expressed dismay at Kinsella's July 5 column "Get what you vote for." At age 90, Howard stated that hatred, if it exists, may only be found in those of unsound mind. She accused Kinsella of suffering from Trump Derangement Syndrome and urged him to "pull yourself together and get a grip." She noted that President Trump will be gone in two years, but Kinsella's life span could be shortened by such hatred.
