Letters to the Editor: April 25, 2026
In a recent letter, Peter Karas of Oakville commented on Warren Kinsella's article 'The trouble with Tories' (April 12). He argued that comparing today's political climate to past historical events is like comparing apples to oranges, as society's makeup is completely different. Turning a minority government into a majority alienates half the population, regardless of polls that seem to influence political decisions to the detriment of doing what is right. He noted that most state-sponsored media portray Mark Carney as a saviour, while Pierre Poilievre is framed as a mean devil reincarnate. Karas concluded that we have an old, tired government with a new paint job on the outside and the same problems on the inside, with politicians clinging to power before ethics and values.
Drake's Publicity Stunt Criticized
Michael Leonard Florio of Brampton responded to an article about Drake using his prominence to create a juvenile publicity stunt that endangered people and required police and fire department intervention. He questioned whether Drake would be reprimanded, noting that Mayor Olivia Chow praised him as a great ambassador for Toronto. Florio sarcastically remarked that his own massive block of ice in a public area would likely not receive the same interest.
Pedestrian Safety Concerns
Gideon Forman of Toronto addressed a driver who nearly hit him at a crosswalk on Christie Street and Yarmouth Road. He emphasized that flashing lights are not an invitation to speed up and urged drivers to obey the law, slow down, and stop. He warned that otherwise, pedestrians could end up dead and drivers in jail. The key message is to slow down, as traffic is already impossible in the city and an extra few seconds will not make a difference.
