Winnipeg police have arrested a senior citizen following an alleged bank robbery in the Sturgeon Creek area on Wednesday. The suspect reportedly fled the scene in a taxi but was apprehended shortly afterward.
Details of the incident
According to police, the robbery occurred at a bank branch in the 300 block of Sturgeon Road around 11:30 a.m. on July 1. The suspect entered the bank, demanded money, and left with an undisclosed amount of cash. He then entered a waiting taxi and instructed the driver to leave the area.
Officers responded quickly and located the taxi a few blocks away. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. Police said no weapons were displayed during the robbery, and no injuries were reported.
Charges and investigation
The 68-year-old Winnipeg man faces charges of robbery and possession of property obtained by crime. He was held in custody pending a court appearance. Police are continuing to investigate and ask anyone with information to contact authorities.
“We are grateful that no one was hurt and that a quick arrest was made,” said Constable Jason Michalyshen in a statement. “This appears to be an isolated incident.”

Residents of the Sturgeon Creek area expressed surprise at the unusual nature of the crime. “It’s not something you expect from a senior,” said local resident Mary Thompson. “But I’m glad the police handled it quickly and safely.”
