Windsor police officers issued a total of 234 traffic tickets during a four-day enforcement campaign over the Victoria Day long weekend, authorities announced on Monday.
Enforcement Details
The initiative, which ran from Friday to Monday, targeted aggressive driving, speeding, and other dangerous behaviors on Windsor roads. Officers focused on high-traffic areas and known collision hotspots.
Among the tickets issued, speeding violations accounted for the largest share, followed by distracted driving and failure to obey traffic signals. Police also made several arrests for impaired driving.
"Our goal is always to ensure the safety of all road users," said Constable Sarah Thompson of the Windsor Police Service. "Long weekends often see increased traffic, and we want everyone to arrive at their destinations safely."
Community Impact
The enforcement blitz comes as part of a broader provincial strategy to reduce road fatalities. Similar campaigns have been conducted across Ontario during holiday periods.
Local residents expressed mixed reactions. Some praised the police for their vigilance, while others questioned the timing and scale of the enforcement.
"I think it's good they're cracking down on dangerous driving, but 234 tickets seems excessive for a long weekend," said Windsor resident Mark Davies.
Police remind drivers to obey speed limits, avoid distractions, and never drive under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
