Two people were hospitalized with serious injuries following a single-vehicle crash near Barrie early Thursday morning, Ontario Provincial Police said.
Crash Details
The incident occurred just after 2 a.m. on Highway 26 near County Road 27 in Springwater Township. Emergency crews responded to reports of a vehicle that had left the roadway and struck a tree.
Both occupants, a 24-year-old man and a 22-year-old woman from Barrie, were extricated from the wreckage by firefighters and airlifted to a Toronto-area trauma centre. Their conditions remain critical but stable.
Investigation Underway
OPP collision investigators are examining the scene to determine the cause. Speed and impairment have not been ruled out. The highway was closed for several hours but has since reopened.
