Two Dead in RV Fire Near Trail; No Foul Play

Two people were found dead on Tuesday after a fire engulfed their recreational vehicle in a remote, forested area in South Kootenay, according to authorities. The incident occurred near Seven Mile Dam, approximately 15 kilometres south of Trail in southeastern British Columbia.

Firefighters Respond to Blaze

Trail RCMP were called to assist Kootenay Boundary Fire Rescue on May 12 as crews battled the RV fire. The vehicle was parked in a remote location and was fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived. At the time, it was unknown whether anyone was inside.

After extinguishing the blaze and preventing it from spreading into the surrounding forest, firefighters discovered two individuals in the debris. Police secured the scene and launched an investigation to identify the victims.

No Suspicious Circumstances

Following a thorough investigation, police determined that the fire was not suspicious and no foul play was involved. The case has been handed over to the B.C. Coroners Service for further examination.

“This is a deeply tragic incident, and our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of those who lost their lives,” said Cpl. Brett Urano of the B.C. RCMP. “We also want to acknowledge the efforts of the fire crews who prevented further damage in what could have become a larger wildfire situation.”

The identities of the deceased have not yet been released pending notification of next of kin. The RCMP and coroner continue to work together to determine the cause of the fire and the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
