Prince Edward Island will hold a provincial byelection on July 13, 2026, to fill the seat left vacant by former health minister Mark McLane, the government announced on Monday.
The writ for the byelection was issued on June 17, triggering a month-long campaign period. The seat became vacant after McLane resigned from the legislature earlier this year.
McLane had served as the health minister and represented the district of Charlottetown-West Royalty. The byelection will be a key test for the ruling Progressive Conservative party under Premier Dennis King.
Elections P.E.I. said advance polling dates will be announced in the coming weeks. Voters are encouraged to check their registration status ahead of election day.
The opposition parties, including the Liberals and the Greens, are expected to field candidates in the race. The byelection will also serve as a barometer of public sentiment ahead of the next general election.
