Nominations Open for District of Muskoka Chair

The District Municipality of Muskoka is calling for candidates to become the next Chair of its council. This position leads the upper-tier municipal government that serves the communities of Bracebridge, Gravenhurst, Huntsville, Lake of Bays, and Georgian Bay.

Current Chair Jeff Lehman has indicated he will not seek re-election, opening the door for new leadership. The Chair presides over council meetings, represents the district at provincial and federal levels, and oversees a budget of over $200 million annually.

Key Responsibilities and Qualifications

The Chair is elected by members of District Council, which includes mayors and councillors from each member municipality. Candidates must be eligible to hold municipal office in Ontario and should have experience in governance, financial management, and community leadership.

According to the District of Muskoka, the Chair serves a four-year term and is responsible for setting policy direction, advocating for regional priorities, and ensuring efficient delivery of services such as waste management, water and wastewater, and social services.
