Details of the Incident

At approximately 3:30 p.m., officers responded to reports of a physical altercation between two men. According to police, the dispute escalated when one man retrieved a knife from his vehicle and returned to stab the other multiple times. The victim, a man in his 50s, was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition but has since been upgraded to critical but stable.

Charges and Investigation

Long Thanh Tran, 45, of Calgary, has been charged with aggravated assault and possession of a weapon dangerous to the public. He was scheduled to appear in court on Tuesday. Police believe the altercation stemmed from an ongoing dispute between the two individuals, who were known to each other.

Staff Sgt. Keith Shufelt stated, “Although we have laid charges in this case, we are still looking to piece together the events that led up to this altercation. We are continuing to collect witness accounts and video evidence to confirm timelines and understand how the situation escalated.”
