Amherstburg Mayor Race Heats Up with 3 Challengers

The race for mayor in Amherstburg is intensifying as three candidates have registered to challenge incumbent Michael Prue in the upcoming municipal election. Frank Cerasa, Frank DiPasquale, and current deputy mayor Chris Gibb have all filed paperwork to run for the town's top office.

Amherstburg Candidates

In addition to the mayoral race, Linden Crain, a current councillor, and William Petruniak, a regular delegation at council meetings, have registered for the position of deputy mayor. The municipal election officially opened for registration on May 1.

Windsor Election Landscape

Meanwhile, in Windsor, only three candidates have registered for city council so far. Shane Potvin is running in Ward 5, Owen Smith in Ward 6, and Adam Ibrahim in Ward 10. The city's election has yet to see the same level of activity as Amherstburg.

Essex and Other Communities

In Essex, incumbent Mayor Sherry Bondy is seeking re-election, along with Deputy Mayor Rob Shepley and Ward 2 Councillor Kim Verbeek. Bill Baker has registered for Ward 3, where he previously served as councillor. Baker ran for mayor in 2014 but was later barred from running in the subsequent election due to overspending on his campaign by $304.

In Kingsville, Roshan Nallaratnam has declared for mayor, incumbent Kimberley DeYong has registered for deputy mayor, and Sheri Lowrie is running again for council.

In Lakeshore, incumbent Tracey Bailey and Sam Sinjari have registered for mayor. Incumbent Kirk Walstedt is running again for deputy mayor, Ryan Lahoud has registered for Ward 1 councillor, and incumbent Larissa Volger is running again in Ward 6.

In LaSalle, incumbent Mayor Crystal Meloche is running again, as is incumbent Deputy Mayor Michael Akpata. Incumbent Mike Seguin is running for council.

In Tecumseh, Deputy Mayor Joe Bachetti is running for mayor, and Tania Jobin is running for deputy mayor. Darrin Drouillard is running in Ward 1, James Dorner and Suanne Hawkins in Ward 2, Leo Demarce in Ward 3, and Marisa Nabbout in Ward 5.

In Leamington, incumbent Mayor Hilda MacDonald is running again, and current councillor Paul Tiessen is running for deputy mayor. Incumbent councillor Bill Dunn is running again, and Rielly O'Shaughnessy has also registered for council.

Regionwide, current Conseil Scolaire Viamonde trustee Emmanuelle Richez is running again.
