Former CBS News journalist Dan Rather on Wednesday suggested that every future episode of “60 Minutes” should carry a damning on-screen disclaimer about Donald Trump.
Rather's Substack Commentary
For the latest issue of his Substack newsletter, the veteran broadcaster argued that viewers should be warned of the weekly news magazine’s apparent new editorial direction under its new corporate leadership.
Proposed Disclaimer
“Going forward, every interview, every story, every shot should come with an asterisk superimposed on the screen right next to the CBS eye: *‘This story was approved by Donald Trump,’” Rather wrote.
Rather acknowledged the president “won’t personally read the script or sanction the stories, of course, but the higher-ups know what Trump wants to see, and especially what he doesn’t.”
Criticism of Leadership
“The president is no doubt thrilled at the demise of a journalistic nemesis that continually called his bluff,” he added.
Rather’s comments came amid an ongoing rightward shift at CBS News under the ownership of Trump ally David Ellison and leadership of editor-in-chief, Bari Weiss, who has overseen mass upheaval at “60 Minutes.”
