Poll: 33% of GOP Say They'd Beat Trump in Fight

A recent YouGov poll has revealed a stark partisan divide in Americans' confidence in their ability to defeat President Donald Trump in a physical fight. The survey, conducted after Trump jokingly asked a young boy at a White House fitness event if he thought he could "take" him, found that while most Americans believe an average person would win, Republicans are far less certain.

Overall Results

Among 2,600 adults surveyed, 66% said an "average American" would defeat the 79-year-old president, while only 10% thought Trump would emerge victorious. However, when asked about their own chances, responses split sharply along party lines.

Democrats' Confidence

A resounding 75% of Democrats said they would beat Trump in a one-on-one bout, compared to a mere 5% who thought the president would win. The remaining 20% were unsure.

Republicans' Uncertainty

Among self-identified Republicans, only 33% believed they would defeat Trump, while 39% said the president would win. Notably, 31% of GOP respondents were unsure of the outcome, reflecting a lack of confidence in their own abilities or respect for Trump's perceived toughness.

The poll also asked about Trump's hypothetical matchup against an 8-year-old, which he proposed while surrounded by children in the Oval Office. Across the political spectrum, 31% of adults predicted Trump would win, though Trump himself admitted the boy might defeat him, calling it "embarrassing."

Trump, who dabbled in boxing promotion during his business career in the late 1980s and early 1990s, has often projected an image of physical strength. However, at 79, his age may be a factor in public perception.
