Leavitt Scolds Gen Z as 'Silver Spoon' Generation on Fox

White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt launched into a critique of her own generation and younger peers during a Thursday appearance on Fox News' 'Primetime' with host Jesse Watters. Leavitt accused Gen Z and those under 25 of having a sense of entitlement and lacking a strong work ethic, attributing these traits to what she described as being 'raised with silver spoons in their mouths.'

Leavitt's Remarks on Workforce Laziness

The conversation began with Watters discussing the rise of communist-style candidates in the Democratic Party and the complaints of younger people about high costs of living. Watters said, 'Some of these kids, and I call them kids ’cause they’re in their 20s and they’ve never had real jobs and they’re complaining things are expensive. Yes, things are expensive when you don’t have a real job. Do you think that’s getting traction? Complaining?'

Leavitt nodded in agreement and responded, 'Unfortunately, I do because this generation, my generation, I hate to say it, Gen Z and those younger than me have been raised with just silver spoons in their mouths.' She added that they are used to 'getting everything handed to them.' Leavitt then stated, 'That’s not the values this country was built on. It was built on meritocracy and hard work, pulling up your sleeves, pulling yourself up from your bootstraps, and achieving the American dream, and we need to protect it with all we’ve got.'

Blaming Liberal Indoctrination

Watters further questioned whether laziness could be a factor, and Leavitt agreed, adding that it is also due to 'liberal indoctrination.' She claimed to have spoken with many parents who are 'turning to private education' and Christian schools 'because they don’t want their children being taught these communist and liberal ideas slammed down their throat.'

Leavitt then linked the issue to the Trump administration's policy on school choice, saying, 'It’s why President Trump and the White House have advocated so strongly for school choice across the country. We want kids to be taught to love our country. They should. It is the greatest country in the history of the world.'

Leavitt's comments come amid broader debates about workforce participation among younger generations, with some studies showing that Gen Z workers prioritize flexibility and purpose over traditional career paths. According to a 2023 Gallup poll, only 30% of Gen Z employees feel engaged at work, compared to 35% of millennials and 38% of Gen X. However, critics argue that labeling an entire generation as 'lazy' overlooks economic factors such as student debt and rising housing costs.
