Chris Cuomo launched a blistering attack on White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, calling him an “ugly, twisted, diseased version of a young man” after Miller criticized New York primary election results. The progressive slate backed by NYC Mayor Zohran Mamdani won big on Tuesday, unseating two incumbent members of Congress and defeating a third candidate endorsed by an outgoing Democrat.
Miller's Claims About Voter Importation
Following the election, Miller posted on X that Democrats had “imported a new electorate” to shift the results leftward. “Change the voters, change the country,” he wrote. Miller, a key architect of President Donald Trump’s immigration policies, claimed that half of NYC residents’ primary language is not English and that a quarter lack English “proficiency.” He alleged the Democratic Party was working to radically reshape Congress through demographic changes.
However, Miller ignored that the progressive victories also rattled the Democratic establishment, with many moderate politicians criticizing Mamdani for the upsets. Cuomo, whose brother Andrew is Mamdani’s arch-mayoral opponent, found Miller’s argument outrageous.
Cuomo's Response on His Show
On Thursday’s episode of “The Chris Cuomo Project,” the former CNN anchor told viewers that Miller’s stance harms the Republican Party. “The more MAGA tries to demonize the reaction, the resistance, the stronger it will become,” Cuomo said. “Keep calling them radical. Keep saying they hate the country. See what that does. You’re going to just put more and more people into their ranks. Why? Because they should be.”
He continued, “The more you say that people thinking that what you’re doing is wrong makes them the problem, the more people you’re going to lose.” Then Cuomo took a vicious turn, mimicking Miller: “‘We need real Democrats to come and vote for us.’ Why the fuck would they vote for you, you ugly little hater? Why would they vote for you?”
“Your head is a metaphor for how unappealing your ideas are,” Cuomo seethed. “Your head is like the perfect vessel for the ideas that come out of it. Your ideas look like you. They look like Stephen Miller. Stephen Miller looks like what he’s selling you — this ugly, twisted, diseased version of a young man. Why would they vote? Why would they want to join you?”
Cuomo's Broader Critique
Cuomo clarified he wasn’t embracing progressives, likening Mamdani’s faction to the Democratic “fringe,” just as Miller’s MAGA sect represents the Republican fringe. He argued that both extremes alienate mainstream voters.
