CNN's Abby Phillip Fires Back at Katie Miller's Claim Linking Insult to Assassination Attempts
Abby Phillip Challenges Katie Miller's Violent Rhetoric Claim

CNN host Abby Phillip on Thursday challenged Katie Miller's assertion that an insult directed at her husband, White House deputy chief of staff Stephen Miller, on social media constitutes the same "violent political rhetoric" that she claims fueled assassination attempts against President Donald Trump.

Katie Miller's Comments on Fox News

During a Wednesday interview on Fox News' "The Ingraham Angle," Katie Miller said, "This is the same violent political rhetoric that is leading people to shooting up, whether it be the White House Correspondents’ Dinner or President Trump in Butler." The remark referred to a post from the Democratic National Committee's official X account, which responded to Stephen Miller's comment labeling Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico as the "first transgender candidate" with the phrase, "shut up, you ugly fuck."

Phillip's Rebuttal

Phillip countered that Katie Miller was "throwing stones from a glass house" given her own history of online insults. "In addition to outing the Democrats’ social media manager, claiming that she’s childless and unmarried ― even though she’s apparently engaged ― and therefore unhappy. Miller has repeatedly insulted liberals online," Phillip said. She cited examples: "In just the past few months, she’s suggested that liberal men aren’t attractive. She’s called liberalism a disease. She’s used the R-word to refer to Gov. Gavin Newsom, and that’s just a few of the many insults."

Examples of Katie Miller's Posts

Last month, Katie Miller wrote on X that liberal men "aren’t attractive" and shared a poll indicating 60% of "extremely liberal men" between 35 and 45 are childless. Representative Shri Thanedar (D-Mich.) responded by posting a photo of Stephen Miller. Phillip also highlighted that Trump Republicans, including White House communications director Steven Cheung, have used similar or worse rhetoric, such as using the R-word to insult lawmakers. Cheung's posts came from official accounts while he travels with the president.

Phillip concluded, "I mean, this is a person who works in the government. He travels with the president. He tweets from official accounts. So I don’t know. How are you comparing saying someone’s husband is ugly to, you know, violence in politics? It just doesn’t make any sense."
