As spring weather arrives, Saskatoon offers a variety of community events and performances this weekend from May 1 to 3. Here are five activities to connect with people and enjoy the city.
1. Participate in a Local Awareness Walk
The 17th annual Jane's Walk Saskatoon Festival features 20 free guided walks around the city from Friday through Sunday. Inspired by urban activist Jane Jacobs, these walking-conversation tours highlight everyday voices in city planning. 2. Explore the Art of Dance
Free Flow Dance Theatre presents the annual International Dance Week Festival, celebrating movement, culture, and community. The four-day event showcases performances from established and emerging artists with diverse cultural backgrounds and contemporary perspectives. Nightly showcases at 7:30 p.m. through Sunday at Persephone Theatre's BackStage Stage feature cross-cultural collaborative dances, from contemporary to culturally-rooted works. 3. Laugh with Local Women
Anna Linassi presents Women Aren't Funny, a standup comedy show featuring six Saskatchewan women: Anna Linassi, Genevieve Robinson, Shannon Mallory, Paula Dott, Jill Smith, and Jenny Ryan. 4. Celebrate Friendship with the SSO
The Saskatoon Symphony Orchestra presents The Traveller, led by Syrian-born clarinetist and composer Kinan Azmeh and Sri Lankan pianist, conductor, and composer Dinuk Wijeratne. This celebration of their long-time friendship features each performing the other's music, backed by the SSO, for the first time in a full program. 5. Remember Those Lost in War
The Department of National Defence and the Canadian Armed Forces present the Battle of the Atlantic Parade on Sunday, starting at 10 a.m. and ending at HMCS Unicorn. The ceremony includes the Saskatchewan Sailor commemoration honouring 62 HMCS Unicorn personnel who died during the Second World War. Learn more on Facebook.
