Melanie Ainsworth, a mother from Waterloo, Ontario, has launched a petition urging the city to address speeding concerns near a school zone. The petition comes after she observed multiple instances of vehicles exceeding speed limits in the area, posing risks to children and pedestrians.
Concerns at Glen Forrest and Glen Manor
The intersection of Glen Forrest and Glen Manor Boulevard has been a particular focus of Ainsworth's efforts. She noted that drivers often ignore posted speed limits, especially during school drop-off and pick-up times. "It's only a matter of time before someone gets seriously hurt," she said in an interview.
Community Support Grows
Since launching the petition online, Ainsworth has garnered significant support from local residents and parents. Many have shared their own experiences of near-misses and close calls in the area. The petition calls for traffic calming measures such as speed bumps, increased police patrols, and better signage.
Ainsworth plans to present the petition to Waterloo city council at an upcoming meeting. She hopes that the collective voice of the community will prompt action to make the streets safer for everyone.
