Two Crashes and Police Standoff Disrupt East Edmonton
Residents of an east Edmonton neighbourhood were shaken overnight by two nearly simultaneous car crashes, one of which escalated into a police standoff. The incidents occurred just blocks apart, prompting a significant emergency response.
According to CTV News Edmonton's Amanda Anderson, the first crash involved a vehicle that struck a utility pole, causing power outages in the area. Shortly after, a second crash occurred nearby, and the driver involved reportedly barricaded themselves inside a residence, leading to a standoff with police.
Police negotiators were called to the scene, and the area was cordoned off for several hours. The standoff was resolved peacefully, and no injuries were reported in either crash. Authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding both incidents.
This event adds to a series of recent incidents in the region, including a separate crash in the Crestview neighbourhood that resulted in road closures. The community remains on alert as investigations continue.
