Transitional housing village planned for former Windsor Arena

City of Windsor officials, including Mayor Drew Dilkens, gathered outside the former Windsor Arena in downtown Windsor on May 27, 2027, to announce a new transitional housing concept called the 'Village at the Barn.' The project aims to address homelessness and related issues by converting the historic arena into a supportive housing village.

Project Details

The 'Village at the Barn' will feature approximately 50 transitional housing units, along with on-site support services such as mental health counseling, addiction recovery programs, and job training. The city plans to repurpose the existing structure while adding modular units to create a community-style living environment.

Community Impact

Mayor Dilkens emphasized the importance of the project in providing stable housing for vulnerable residents. 'This initiative represents a significant step forward in our efforts to combat homelessness and improve quality of life for all Windsorites,' he said. The village is expected to open in late 2028.
