Toronto Highways and Transit Shutdown This Weekend

The Don Valley Parkway and the Gardiner Expressway will be closed on Sunday for the annual Bike for Brain Health event, causing significant traffic disruptions across Toronto. Road closures will begin at 2 a.m. and last until 4 p.m., affecting the Gardiner Expressway from South Kingsway to the DVP, the DVP from Lakeshore Boulevard to Highway 401, and the Rees/Spadina, Jameson, and South Kingsway ramps.

Transit Service Adjustments

In addition to highway closures, the TTC and GO Transit will have service shutdowns this weekend. The TTC Line 2 between Jane and Ossington stations will be closed for track work, with shuttle buses running between those stations on Saturday and Sunday. Regular subway service resumes on Monday.

GO Transit Cancellations

GO Transit's Lakeshore West service will be shut down for planned construction as part of the GO expansion plans. Train service will operate between Niagara Falls and Aldershot, and between Mimico and Union Station. On Saturday and Sunday, there will be no GO train service between Allandale Waterfront and Union Station. GO buses will run between Allandale Waterfront and Rutherford, then directly to the Highway 407 Bus Terminal, where passengers can connect to TTC service.

City Events This Weekend

Several events are happening around town, including the Great North Beatbox Festival at The Rec Room, Lip Sync with Pride-Unity in the City at the Assembly Hall, We Walk Uhnited at the Toronto General Hospital outdoor parking lot on Elizabeth Street, and Gluten Free Garage at Wychwood Barns.

Last month, the closure of the Gardiner and Lakeshore caused significant congestion, as reported by Joe Warmington. Drivers are advised to plan alternate routes and allow extra travel time this weekend.
