Surrey Police ID Suspects in Assault of 8-Year-Old

Two men who were the focus of a police search after an eight-year-old boy was assaulted at a Khalsa Day carnival attraction have been identified. The Surrey Police Service (SPS) announced that the suspects are now known and will be interviewed in connection with the April 19 incident at the Kreepy Kastle haunted house in Surrey.

Details of the Assault

On April 19, the boy was assaulted inside the Kreepy Kastle, a haunted house attraction set up in the parking lot of the Gurdwara Dashmesh Darbar Sahib as part of Vaisakhi celebrations. The child managed to escape the two men and reach his family outside, but suffered neck injuries that required hospital treatment. Police have confirmed that neither suspect is believed to be part of the carnival staff, and the owner/operator has been fully cooperative.

Investigation Progress

“The investigation is continuing with the second suspect scheduled to be interviewed shortly,” said Surrey police liaison Ian MacDonald. “From here we plan to submit a report to B.C. Prosecution Service. For now, again thanks to the public, media and social media response, we have tackled the biggest challenge of positively identifying the suspects.” The SPS major crime unit and special victims team are leading the investigation.

Man Falls from SkyTrain Track While Fleeing Police

In a separate incident on Wednesday, a man fell from elevated SkyTrain tracks near Joyce Station while attempting to flee from police. Metro Vancouver Transit Police had responded to a call about a man with a weapon uttering threats near the station. When officers located him, they attempted to use less-lethal force, but the man fled onto the tracks and fell to the ground. He was taken into custody and transported to hospital with serious injuries.
