Ottawa firefighters spent more than an hour Monday evening battling a house fire in Kinburn that displaced seven residents. The blaze, which started in the attached garage of a single-family home, quickly spread to the two-storey structure, leaving it fully involved with heavy smoke and flames.
Firefighters Respond to Multiple 911 Calls
Ottawa Fire Services received multiple 911 calls at 5:44 p.m. on July 6, reporting flames coming from the attached garage of a home in the 1800 block of Diamondview Road. Upon arrival, crews found that the fire had already spread from the garage to the house, which was fully engulfed.
Residents met firefighters outside and confirmed that all occupants and pets had safely evacuated. No injuries were reported.
Additional Hazards and Aerial Attack
Propane tanks located on one side of the home posed an additional hazard. Firefighters used an aerial ladder to attack the flames from above, according to a social media post from fire services. The fire was declared under control at 6:59 p.m.
Displacement and Investigation
Seven residents were displaced as a result of the fire. Victim Services was dispatched to the scene to assist those affected. An Ottawa Fire Services investigator also attended to determine the cause and origin of the fire. The investigation is ongoing.
