Search for armed suspect in Salmon River, N.S.

Police in Nova Scotia have one man in custody and are actively searching for another suspect believed to be armed with a handgun in the community of Salmon River. The RCMP issued a public warning early Wednesday morning, advising residents to stay indoors and avoid the area as officers conduct a search.

Police operation underway

According to an RCMP news release, officers were dispatched to the area around 4:56 a.m. local time on April 29, 2026, following reports of a man carrying a handgun. Upon arrival, police located and arrested one individual without incident. However, a second suspect remains at large and is considered armed and dangerous.

Mounties have established a perimeter and are using specialized units, including the Emergency Response Team and police dog services, to track the fleeing suspect. Residents in the vicinity are urged to lock their doors and report any suspicious activity immediately.
