Western University Maps Out Decades-Long Vision for Campus Growth
Western University is inviting the public to share their input on a comprehensive Campus Development Strategy that outlines the institution's growth and transformation over the next 30 years. The university will host an in-person town hall to gather feedback from students, faculty, staff, and community members.
The strategy aims to modernize facilities, enhance green spaces, and improve connectivity across the campus. Key priorities include expanding research infrastructure, upgrading student housing, and creating more pedestrian-friendly zones. The plan also emphasizes sustainability, with goals to reduce carbon emissions and integrate renewable energy sources.
University officials stress that community engagement is crucial to ensuring the strategy aligns with the needs of all stakeholders. The town hall will feature presentations from planners and architects, followed by a Q&A session. Feedback collected will inform the final version of the development plan, which is expected to be approved later this year.
Western's current campus spans over 1,200 acres and serves more than 40,000 students. The new strategy is designed to accommodate anticipated enrollment growth while preserving the campus's historic character. Construction projects are slated to begin in phases, with the first major developments targeting the northern and central precincts.
For those unable to attend the town hall, an online survey will remain open until May 15. The university plans to release a summary of the feedback and the final strategy document on its website.
