Pedestrian Killed in Calgary Crash, Fifth in 4 Days

A pedestrian has died after being struck by a vehicle in the Westbrook area of Calgary on Friday afternoon, marking the fifth collision involving pedestrians on city streets in just four days.

The Calgary Police Service reported that the crash occurred at approximately 3:45 p.m. at the intersection of Bow Trail and 37th Street S.W. Emergency responders transported the victim to a hospital with serious, life-threatening injuries. The pedestrian was later pronounced dead shortly before 9:30 p.m.

The driver involved in the fatal incident remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators, police confirmed.

Rise in Pedestrian Incidents

Friday's crash is part of a concerning trend, as it was the fifth collision involving six pedestrians since Tuesday. Police provided details on the other incidents:

  • Friday, 11:40 a.m. – A child sustained minor injuries after being hit by a vehicle in the 3100 block of 30th Avenue S.E.
  • Thursday, 11 a.m. – A pedestrian suffered minor injuries after being struck at 8th Street and 11th Avenue S.W.
  • Wednesday, 2 p.m. – Another child was involved in a crash with a vehicle in the 2200 block of 48th Street N.E., resulting in non-life-threatening injuries.
  • Tuesday, shortly before 4 p.m. – A vehicle hit two people at the intersection of 32nd Street and 20th Avenue N.E. The victims, two members of the same family, were taken to Foothills Hospital in critical condition.

In all these cases, the drivers remained at the scene, police said.

Ongoing Investigations

At last report, all collisions remain under investigation. Police are urging anyone with information about any of the crashes to come forward.
